This ordinance shall be known and may be cited as the "Plymouth
Township Intermunicipal Police Cooperation Ordinance."

It is the purpose and objective of any agreement entered into
pursuant hereto to enable Plymouth Township and municipalities bordering
upon Plymouth Township to mutually aid and assist one another in times
of emergency when available manpower may not be sufficient to cope
with the conditions then existing.

The council of Plymouth Township is hereby authorized to enter
into intermunicipal police cooperation agreements with municipalities
which border upon Plymouth Township in accordance with the authority
granted therefor by Act 180 of 1972 and under and subject to the following
limitations:
(a) Assistance will be furnished only upon request by the chief of police
or officer in charge of the municipality requesting such assistance
made directly to the chief of police or officer in charge of the Plymouth
Township Police Department.
(b) It shall not be mandatory that police assistance be furnished the
requesting muncipality and, upon receipt of such request, the chief
of police or officer in charge of the Plymouth Township Police Department
shall determine whether such assistance can be provided and the nature
of the assistance be rendered.
(c) Any such assistance furnished by the police department of Plymouth
Township may be withdrawn at any time by the chief of police or officer
in charge of the Plymouth Township Police Department.
(d) A police officer of an assisting municipality, when serving within
the territorial limits of Plymouth Township pursuant to an agreement,
shall have all rights, authority, and privileges of a police officer,
including the right to make arrests, and that police officer shall
be under the supervision of the chief of police or officer in charge
of Plymouth Township.
(e) A Plymouth Township police officer, when serving within the territorial
limits of another municipality pursuant to an agreement, shall be
under the supervision of the chief of police or officer in charge
of the municipality requesting assistance.
(f) Police officers employed by Plymouth Township, while serving within
the territorial limits of another municipality pursuant to a request
under an agreement, shall, at all times, remain employees of Plymouth
Township and Plymouth Township shall be responsible for the payment
of such officer's wages, insurance coverage, and fringe benefits.
(g) No charge or expense shall be made against a municipality requesting
police assistance for the service of Plymouth Township police officers
responding thereto.
(h) The agreement shall continue until terminated by either party thereto
on 30 days' written notice.
