The office of City Marshal is hereby established.

The Mayor with the advice and consent of a majority of the members of the City Council shall appoint a person to the office of City Marshal, who shall serve an indefinite term of office until his or her employment is terminated at the will of the Mayor with the approval and consent of the City Council.

A. 
The City Marshal shall act as a liaison between the Police and the City Council and chair the Board of Public Safety. The Marshal need not be a certified Police Officer, but must reside in the City of Wildwood. The duties of the Marshal shall include:
1. 
To report to the Council on matters of public safety, communicate with the contracted police department through the Wildwood Commander or his/her supervisors, and the planning and contracting departments thereof, and make suggestions and recommendations to the Council for improvement to the reporting and communication process;
2. 
To advise the City Administrator in the preparation of the budget for police protection, and shall provide comments on that budget to the City Council and Mayor;
3. 
To work in cooperation with the City Administrator in acting as liaison between the Police Department and the City Council, Mayor and City departments and agencies; communications between Council Members and Mayor and the Police Department may be directed to the City Marshal;
4. 
To recommend new ordinances to protect the health and safety of the citizens of the City of Wildwood;
5. 
To keep the City Council and Mayor advised on the latest techniques of law enforcement, and may pursue grants and other resources to improve law enforcement and public safety;
6. 
To communicate any complaints from the City Council, Mayor or any citizen regarding the actions of any Police Officer or department to the Police Supervisor in charge;
7. 
To act as liaison between the City Council and the fire protection districts within the City.

The compensation of the Marshal shall be one thousand eight hundred dollars ($1,800.00) per year, unless declined.
