Any person desiring to engage in the taxi business of hauling persons for hire within the City must make application for a license therefor, in person, to the Board of Aldermen.

A yearly fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) will be charged for a license required by this Article.

A person applying for a license required by this Article must be of a sober nature, of good moral character and be without any City conviction of driving while intoxicated within a three (3) year period; and shall not have had a suspension or revocation of driver's license or chauffeur's license within a period of three (3) years.

A. 
All vehicles used as taxicabs shall at all times be in such a condition as to pass a street driving inspection by the Police Department; each feature of the automobile that contributes to driving safety must be in reasonable condition or working order.
B. 
The Police Department, after proper inspection of an automobile to be used as a taxicab, may order the use of any automobile not meeting reasonable safety requirements stopped.

A. 
All persons licensed pursuant to this Article shall have the following liability insurance for each vehicle operated pursuant to the license.
1. 
One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for injury or death of any one (1) person.
2. 
Eight hundred thousand dollars ($800,000.00) for injury or death arising from any one (1) accident or occurrence.
3. 
Eight hundred thousand dollars ($800,000.00) for property damage arising from any one (1) accident or occurrence.

All automobiles used as taxicabs must display in large letters in their interiors the taxi rates charged by persons licensed pursuant to this Article, and those rates must be filed with the Board of Aldermen prior to the time they take effect.

Any violation of any of the provisions of this Article shall, at the discretion of the Board of Aldermen, be sufficient grounds to revoke a taxi license issued pursuant to this Article.
