A. 
Office Created. The Mayor, with the consent and approval of the Board of Aldermen, may appoint some suitable person to fill the offices of Street Commissioner, Water Commissioner, Sewer Commissioner and Parks Commissioner combined, and he/she shall be known as the Commissioner of Public Works.
B. 
Duties. The Commissioner of Public Works shall be responsible for organizing and directing all the activities of the Public Works Department as a working Commissioner. He/she shall be responsible for maintenance, repairs and upkeep of all City property and equipment under the Public Works Department.
C. 
Compensation. The Commissioner of Public Works shall receive compensation for his/her services such sum as the Board of Aldermen may from time to time determine.

A. 
This Article combines the Departments of Streets, Water, Sewer, and Parks into a Public Works Department. The Public Works Department is under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Works.
B. 
The Commissioner of Public Works shall be responsible for organizing and directing all the activities of the various departments under his/her direction as a working Commissioner. He/she shall be responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of all City property and equipment under the Public Works Department.
C. 
The Commissioner of Public Works shall strive to keep good water and sewer service available to residents of the City, and keep the streets and parks in good repair.
D. 
The Commissioner of Public Works may make necessary purchases of equipment, materials and supplies that have been approved in the City budget for his/her departments. Purchases over five hundred dollars ($500.00) must first be approved by the Board of Aldermen. Purchases of five hundred dollars ($500.00) or less may be approved by the City Administrator.
E. 
The Commissioner of Public Works shall assist other City Officials in preparing the yearly budget for the various departments under his/her direction.
