For the purpose of this Chapter, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this Section:
AT LARGE
Any dog or cat shall be deemed to be at large when it is off the property of its owner and not restrained by a competent person.
CAT
Any member of the feline family over six (6) months of age.
DOG
Any member of canine family over six (6) months of age.
EUTHANASIA
To put to death in a humane way.
EXPOSED TO RABIES
When bitten by, or fought with, or has come in close contact with a dog or other animal shown to be infected with the rabies virus as determined by standard laboratory testing.
HUMANE OFFICER
Person appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen to control dogs and cats in the City.
IMPOUND
To apprehend, catch, trap or net a dog or cat and thereafter confine it.
KEEPER
Any person keeping or harboring a dog or cat.
PUP
Any member of canine family under six (6) months of age.
REGISTRATION, VACCINATION
The procedure of vaccinating for rabies and issuing an appropriate certificate. The words shall be interchangeable.
RESTRAINT
A dog or cat is under restraint if it is controlled by a leash, at "heel" of a competent person and obedient to that person's commands or within a vehicle being driven or parked on the streets.
VACCINATION TAG
Any object, regardless of shape or size, which bears a registration number and which has been issued by any licensed veterinarian.
