[Adopted as Ch. 17, Art. VI, of the 1973 Code]
A. 
The Borough Treasurer shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. He shall hold office until January 1 next following his appointment and until his successor is appointed.
B. 
The Treasurer shall work under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer.

C. 
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-152, tenure shall be provided to the Treasurer.

The Borough Treasurer shall:
A. 
Prescribe, develop, maintain, approve and enforce all financial systems and procedures and install uniform charts of accounts for all departments of the municipal government.
B. 
Make revenue and expenditure estimates for the Mayor and Council.
C. 
Maintain the Borough accounts and records.
D. 
Control all expenditures within the limits of appropriations.
E. 
Preaudit bills and claims.
F. 
Prepare voucher checks for signature.
G. 
Prepare payrolls for approval by the Mayor and Council or as provided in the Salary Ordinance.[1]

H. 
Have the safekeeping and custody of all municipal securities, investments and bonds in the Borough, in conjunction and coordination with the Borough Clerk.

I. 
Supervise financial proceedings for the issuance of municipal bonds of the Borough, subject to requirements of law, ordinance or resolution, in conjunction and coordination with the Borough Clerk.

J. 
Invest and reinvest surplus or idle funds of the Borough, subject to the approval of the Mayor and Council, in conjunction and coordination with the Borough Clerk.

K. 
Administer all matters relating to status rights and benefits of employees of the Borough under employee benefit and welfare programs, in conjunction and coordination with the Borough Clerk.

L. 
Promptly pay interest and principal on municipal obligations as they fall due, in conjunction and coordination with the Borough Clerk.

The Borough Treasurer shall enter into a bond in favor of the Borough of Somerdale in such amount as may be prescribed by the Mayor and Council, which bond shall be approved as to form and surety by the Borough Attorney and shall be filed with the Borough Clerk.
