All that district of country hereafter described shall be known
and distinguished by the name of the village of Churchville, that
is to say — all that part of the town of Riga, in
the county of Monroe, bounded as follows, to-wit: beginning at a stake
standing on the west line of lot number fifty-one, in the town of
Riga, and on the north side of the Tonawanda railroad, now New York
Central railroad; thence north along the west line of said lot number
fifty-one, thirty-five chains to a stake; thence north fifty-eight
and one-half degrees, east thirty-three and twenty-two-one-hundredths
chains, to an elm tree; thence north seventy-eight and one-quarter
degrees, east ten and three-fifths chains, to a stake standing on
the east line of lot number fifty-two, and of the south end of the
bridge across Black creek; thence north-east sixty-eight and one-half
degrees, east eleven chains, to a white oak tree; thence south eighty
degrees, east fourteen and four-fifth chains, to a stake standing
on the east bank of said creek, and on the south line of land owned
by David Meeker; thence south eighty-nine degrees, east thirteen and
three-tenths chains, to a stake; thence north sixty and seven-fiftieths
chains to a stake standing on land owned by Norman Savage; thence
south eighty-seven and one-fourth degrees, west thirty-nine and two
fifths chains, to a stake standing on the west line of lot number
fifty-three, and at the north-west corner of four acres of land purchased
of H. W. Davis by B. Richmond; thence west thirty-nine and nineteen-one-hundredths
chains to the place of beginning.
The inhabitants resident within the territory aforesaid are
a municipal corporation, and shall hereafter be known in law by the
corporate name of "The village of Churchville," and by that name they
and their successors shall have perpetual succession; shall be capable
of suing and being sued, complaining and defending in any court; may
make and use a common seal, and alter the same at pleasure; and shall
have power to hold, purchase and convey such real and personal estate
as the purposes of the corporation may require.
