An advisory committee to be known as the Warrington Township Bike and Hike Committee is hereby created and shall continue to function until this article is repealed. The Board of Supervisors hereby acknowledges and ratifies the previous work performed by the Township's existing informally organized Bike and Hike Committee.
The Bike and Hike Committee shall be comprised of seven members, all of whom shall be residents of Warrington Township, to be appointed by the Board of Supervisors of Warrington Township. Resident committee members shall serve a term of five years. Terms of office shall expire on the first Monday in January following the last year of their term of office, or until a successor is appointed. Initial appointments shall be staggered so that the term of at least one, but not more than two, resident members shall expire each year.
The purpose of the Bike and Hike Committee shall be to:
A. 
Advise the Board of Supervisors regarding issues concerning bicyclists and pedestrians within Warrington Township;
B. 
Investigate and analyze appropriate routes of travel for bicyclists and pedestrians;
C. 
Coordinate the potential extension of bicycle and pedestrian routes from adjoining municipalities into Warrington Township;
D. 
Evaluate and make recommendations for any proposed biking or walking facilities, including but not limited to, delineated bicycle lanes, bicycle racks, signage and signalization; and
E. 
Undertake such tasks associated with bicycling, hiking and walking as directed by the Board of Supervisors.
F. 
Establish programs and events to encourage the use of the trails and outdoor activities in Warrington Township;
G. 
Evaluate the availability of grants and assist in the preparation of grants with the approval of the Board of Supervisors.
H. 
Utilize volunteers to assist Committee members in accomplishing the purposes listed above and any other activities that the Committee undertakes.

Committee members shall receive no compensation for their services, but may be reimbursed for the expenses actually and necessarily incurred by them in the performance of their duties, at the discretion of the Board of Supervisors.
The Bike and Hike Committee shall keep records of its meetings and provide reports to the Board of Supervisors upon request. Minutes of each meeting shall be made available to the Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors may, from time to time, appropriate funds for the expenses incurred by the committee.
