Any person or organization who engages in the business of contracting for installation, alteration, repairs, assembly, maintenance or service of equipment regulated by this Code, shall be licensed in accordance with the provisions of this Division.

Licensed contractors shall not enter into an agreement with, or sublet any work to a person not licensed for such work under the provisions of this Division. No deviation from the work as described in the permit shall be made without permission of the Building Official, and any work in addition to work authorized by the permit shall require a supplementary permit.

A. 
Electrician Class I License. An Electrician Class I license is required for those who install, alter, repair or remove any electrical equipment regulated by this Article. The license fee for Electrician Class I shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) per year, with all licenses to be due and payable in accordance with Section 605.070.
B. 
Electrician Class II License. An Electrician Class II license is required for those who:
1. 
Maintain or repair existing facilities on property owned by the licensee or his/her employer;
2. 
Assemble or install electric lighting fixtures and wiring in connection therewith;
3. 
Connect new or replacement gas-fired heating equipment to existing electrical circuits, extend existing circuits not more than ten (10) feet, and install control circuits;
4. 
Install or connect electric signs which shall be limited to extension of new or existing circuits (provided by an Electrician Class I licensee) in close proximity to a sign, such connections not to exceed ten (10) feet.
C. 
The license fee for Electrician Class II shall be ten dollars ($10.00) per year, with all licenses to be due and payable in accordance with Section 605.070 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Marshall.

An applicant for a Class I electrician's license shall have at least five (5) years' experience as a journeyman electrician Class II and show competency in the form of a satisfactory score on a written examination and an interview with the Electrical Board.

A. 
In the City, electrical installations can be legally made only by licensed electricians or by men or women that are supervised by a licensed electrician.
B. 
Any person who is required by this Division to possess an electrician's license shall make application therefor to the Board of Examiners of Electricians for the City on application forms provided for that purpose by the Secretary of the Board and pay the required fee.
C. 
Except as specified in this Division or Division 5, no license required by this Division shall be issued to any person who does not hold a certificate of competency issued pursuant to this Division or Division 5.
D. 
To obtain an electrician's license, a person must apply to the Electrical Inspector and present proof of trade competency to be presented to the Board of Examiners of Electricians for evaluation and approval. Every person applying for an electrician's license shall pay to the Board of Examiners of Electricians for the City at the time of application an examination fee in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00), or such sum as specified in the City's fee schedule, as may be amended from time to time.
E. 
All applicants, except as otherwise specified in this Division or Division 5, shall be examined for competency in the grade or grades, specified in the application, as to their knowledge of and ability to perform the duties and services of the grade or grades for which application is made. Applicants shall appear at such time and place as the Board of Examiners of Electricians may designate and shall undergo such examinations as the Board may direct to establish the competence and qualifications of the applicant.
F. 
Any applicant who fails to pass the examinations prescribed by the Board of Examiners of Electricians may apply for reexamination after the expiration of sixty (60) days. An examination fee in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00), or such sum as specified in the City's fee schedule, as may be amended from time to time, shall be paid by the applicant for each reexamination.
G. 
An applicant who passes the examination shall then also pay the license fee as set forth in Section 500.180 of this Division to obtain a license, or such sum as specified in the City's fee schedule, as may be amended from time to time.

The Board of Examiners of Electricians may issue a temporary license pending examination, provided the applicant holds a similar license from an equivalent board. Such permit shall not be valid for more than sixty (60) days. If the Board finds through its investigation that the applicant has been properly licensed by a City of the State and in acquiring same, has passed an examination equivalent to the examination given by this City in issuing a similar license, the Board may issue a regular certificate of competence without further examination. The fee for a temporary license shall be fifty dollars ($50.00).
