The action of the Town Meeting of the Town of Lyme taken on
October 18, 1941, providing that the First Selectman shall by virtue
of his office be a member of the Zoning Commission be and hereby is
rescinded.
The provisions of Chapter 124 (Zoning) of the General Statutes
of the State of Connecticut, Revision of 1958, as amended, are hereby
adopted, and the powers granted under such chapter, or any amendment
thereto, shall be exercised by the Zoning Commission hereinafter appointed
which shall operate under and be governed by the provisions of said
Chapter 124, the regulations promulgated by the Zoning Commission
prior hereto to continue in full force and effect until modified or
repealed in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 124.

The provisions of Chapter 126 (Municipal Planning Commissions)
of the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut, Revision of 1958,
as amended, are hereby adopted. The Zoning Commission of the Town
of Lyme is hereby designated as the Planning and Zoning Commission
of the Town of Lyme and shall have all the powers and duties of both
a Planning Commission and a Zoning Commission as provided by the General
Statutes of the State of Connecticut, as amended. The Planning and
Zoning Commission of the Town of Lyme shall consist of seven members
who shall be the five members of the Zoning Commission previously
appointed and in addition thereto two members who shall serve for
the term until the biennial election to be held on the first Monday
of October 1963, and thereafter their successors shall be elected
at the biennial election of the Town of Lyme to serve for a term of
six years.

Three alternate members of the Planning and Zoning Commission
shall be elected positions and their election will be held at the
next municipal election on November 2, 2021. The term of office for
these positions will be for six years, with the terms staggered so
one position will be elected each municipal election thereafter. Therefore,
at the next municipal election one alternate shall be elected for
a term of two years, one alternate shall be elected for a term of
four years and one alternate shall be elected for a term of six years.
All subsequent elections shall be for a six-year term.
A. Such alternate
members shall be electors and shall not be members of the Zoning Board
of Appeals. An alternate member shall act if a regular member of the
Commission is absent or disqualified. In such case, the alternate
shall be chosen by the absent or disqualified member.
B. Any vacancy
occurring among alternate members shall be filled by the Board of
Selectmen for the unexpired portion of the term.
C. The Board
of Selectmen will have the authority and responsibility to appoint
the original three alternate members to serve for the period from
enactment of this section until the next municipal election.
