No person shall overdrive, overload, deprive of necessary sustenance,
torture, torment, cruelly beat, mutilate or cruelly kill any animal;
or cause, procure or authorize these acts; or having the charge or
custody of an animal, whether as owner or otherwise, inflict unnecessary
suffering or pain upon the same, or unnecessarily fail to provide
the animal with nutritious food in sufficient quantity, necessary
veterinary care, proper drink, air, space, shelter or protection from
the weather.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this article,
or any lawful order issued by the police in pursuance thereof, or
committing any of the acts declared to be unlawful by this article,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall
be subject to a fine not to exceed $100, or may be confined to the
county jail for a period not to exceed 30 days.
