There is hereby authorized and established the Green Township
Volunteer Fire Department composed of one company, to be known as
the "Green Township Volunteer Fire Department," and such additional
companies as the Township Committee may hereafter authorize and approve.

No person shall hereafter become a member of the Fire Department
of the Township of Green or any unit thereof unless such person is
above the age of 18 and not over the age of 40 years and a citizen
of the United States and has been a resident of the Township of Green,
County of Sussex, for upwards of one year. He/she shall be physically
fit to perform the duties of a firefighter, as evidenced by a certificate
to that effect by a practicing physician of the State of New Jersey,
after physical examination for that purpose.

Every member of the Fire Department shall annually perform at
least 60% of duty, to be composed of actual attendance and duty at
fires and drills, and a record shall be kept of such attendance and
duty by the Chief of the Fire Department and a report thereof made
to the municipal officers annually.

Every person seeking to join the Fire Department shall make
application to the company or unit which he/she desires to join; and
upon his or her election to membership by vote of a majority of the
unit present and voting, that person shall become a probationary member
for a period of six months, after which time the Department or unit
shall vote by secret ballot of a majority of the unit present and
voting to determine if the period of probation has been satisfactory
for membership in the Department or unit, subject to confirmation
by the Township Committee, and his name shall be entered on a roll
of firemen kept by the Municipal Clerk.
The Green Township Volunteer Fire Department shall establish
rules and regulations in order to effectuate the purpose of this article.

Exemption certificates may be issued to members of the Fire
Department in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S. 40A:14-55 et
seq.
