The City of Hoboken may designate, modify the designation of,
or de-designate historic districts or historic sites as follows:
A. Applying the criteria for nominating an historic property for listing
on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register
of Historic Places, the Planning Board, upon the advice of the Historic
Preservation Commission or upon its own initiative, may recommend
to the Mayor and to the City Council the designation, modified designation
or de-designation of historic sites and districts based on recommendations
in the Master Plan.
B. Alternatively, the Historic Preservation Commission, applying the criteria for nominating an historic property for listing on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register of Historic Places, may recommend to the Mayor and City Council the designation, modified designation or de-designation of historic sites and districts based on recommendations in the Master Plan or based upon any studies that the Historic Preservation Commission may independently conduct in accordance with its responsibilities listed in §
42-8.
C. Upon receiving recommendations from the Planning Board and/or Historic
Preservation Commission as to the designation, modified designation
or de-designation of historic sites and districts, the City Council
shall hold public hearings and vote on the designation, modified designation
or de-designation of historic sites and districts.
