The house number system is adopted by the Town of Edinburg for
the purpose of identifying and expediting the location of property
in case of fire, medical emergency or the need of police protection.
The Philadelphia Block Number System is used for house numbering,
i.e., streets running north and south and east and west with even
numbers assigned to one side of the street and odd numbers on the
opposite side of the street. The point of origin is Center Street.
An official master list of all street names and house and lot
numbers will be maintained and made available for reference at the
Edinburg Town Office.
Numbers shall be assigned to each vacant lot, residence and
building in the Town of Edinburg in accordance with a schedule determined
by the Town of Edinburg.
Any owner or any proprietor of any vacant lot, residence or
building to which a number is assigned by the Town of Edinburg shall
thereafter identify said vacant lot, residence or building by reference
to the number system as adopted.
Any owner or any proprietor of any residence or building assigned
a number by the Town of Edinburg shall, thereafter, post the official
number for said residence or building in a manner as to be visible
and distinguishable from the street on which the property is located,
but in any event, no such official numbers shall be posted lower than
three feet from the ground.
[Amended 8-12-1998; amended
at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
Any owner or proprietor of any residence or building who violates
any of the provisions of this chapter shall be punished by a civil
penalty of $100 for a violation that has not been corrected within
15 days of notice of such violation. Civil penalties assessed under
this section shall be paid into the treasury of the Town.
