There is hereby established a Council on Aging
for the purpose of carrying out programs designed to meet the problems
of the aged, in coordination with programs of the Council on Aging
established under MGL c. 40, § 8B.

The Council shall consist of nine members to
be appointed by the Mayor for the following terms: three members whose
terms shall expire on the second day of November 1969; three members
whose terms shall expire on the second day of November 1970; and three
members whose terms shall expire on the second day of November 1971.
Annually thereafter in the month of October he shall appoint Councillors
to succeed those whose terms shall expire on the following November
2, who shall hold office for the term of three years from November
2 in the year in which they are appointed or until their successors
are chosen. Any vacancy occurring in the Council shall be filled for
the balance of the term by the Mayor. Members of the Council may be
removed by the Mayor.
The Council appointed as aforesaid shall determine
the time and place for its meetings, elect a Chairman and appoint
a Secretary. It may provide facilities for the health, education,
welfare and recreation of the aged.
