The purpose of this article is to restrict the discharge of firearms on public property owned by the Town of Newstead within the Town of Newstead.
Commencing with the effective date of this article, it shall hereafter be unlawful to discharge firearms on property owned by the Town of Newstead located within the Town of Newstead except with the prior written consent of the Town Board of the Town of Newstead, which consent must be specific as to the individual authorized and firearms authorized. This provision shall not apply to police officers and peace officers (including Clerks of the Court) during the course of the performance of their duties.
Any person who discharges a firearm on Town property within the Town of Newstead in violation of the provision of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to a fine not less than $100 and not more than $250 for the first offense and not less than $250 and not more than $500 for any subsequent offense, by imprisonment for a period not exceeding 15 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
