It shall be the duty of the Animal Control Officer
to keep or cause to be kept accurate and detailed records of the impoundment
and disposition of all animals coming into his custody.
Immediately upon impounding any dog under this
article, the Animal Control Officer shall make a reasonable effort
to notify the owner of such dog and inform him of the conditions whereby
he may regain possession of the dog.
Any animal impounded under this article shall
be confined at the pound in a humane manner.

The fees for the impoundment of an animal under this article shall be as set forth in Chapter
122, Fees, plus the daily fee then in effect for board of the animal, such daily fee to be added to the amounts listed in Chapter
122. The amounts described in this section are for each animal and such fees shall be in addition to any other fines or penalties which may be levied against the owner of the animal. Such fees shall be collected by and paid to the Animal Rescue Division of the Public Safety Department, prior to the release of such animal, for the use of the Animal Rescue Division.
Any dog or other animal impounded under the provisions of this article and not reclaimed by its owner within the time prescribed by §
97-22 may be humanely destroyed by the Animal Control Officer, have its title transferred to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or be placed in the custody of someone deemed to be a responsible and suitable owner who shall agree to comply with the provisions of this chapter and such regulations as shall be fixed by the Town Council; provided, however, that if the animal is one as to which the respective rights of the owner and the person in possession or custody are determined by state law, such law shall be complied with.
