For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meaning ascribed to them herein:
PORTABLE STORAGE UNIT
A transportable unit designed and used primarily for temporary storage of building materials (before they are utilized for building purposes), household goods, and other such materials for use on a limited basis on residential properly.
A. 
A portable storage unit may be located in the R-1, R-2 and RA Zoning Districts, subject to the conditions set forth herein. Within seven days of placing a portable storage unit on property which a person owns, rents, occupies or controls, a permit must be obtained from the Township Building Office. The fee for a permit is provided in Chapter 88 of the Township Code.
B. 
A permit for a portable storage unit will be valid for a period of 30 days. A permit obtained for a storage unit to be used during construction on the residential property where the unit is located may be renewed for up to five additional thirty-day periods for a maximum period of six months. Application for renewal must be made prior to the expiration of the existing permit. Renewal shall be at the discretion of the Code Enforcement Officer and shall require proof of a current building permit for the property. Denial of a request for renewal of a permit may be appealed to the Township Council.
C. 
Only one permit per property, including all renewals of said permit, shall be granted during a twelve-month period.
A. 
Only one portable storage unit may be placed on a residential property at one time.
B. 
A portable storage unit shall only be located in the property driveway at the furthest accessible point from the street.
C. 
No hazardous material or organic waste shall be placed in a portable storage unit.
D. 
No portable storage unit shall be used for the storage of construction debris, business inventory, commercial goods or goods for property other than the residential property where the unit is located. Upon reasonable notice to the applicant, the Township may inspect the contents of any portable storage unit for compliance with this chapter.
E. 
It shall be the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the portable storage unit is maintained in good condition, free from evidence of deterioration, weathering, discoloration, rust, ripping, tearing or other holes or breaks.
F. 
No portable storage unit shall exceed 20 feet in length.
The use of portable storage units in zoning districts other than the residential districts set forth above is subject to the zoning requirements of the zoning district in which the property is located.

Any person who shall violate any provision of this chapter, upon conviction, shall be subject to removal of the portable storage unit and shall further be subject to the penalty as provided in Chapter 1, Article II, herein.
