It shall be required that, in any premises where approved automatic
sprinkler equipment is installed, a yearly inspection report by an approved
sprinkler contractor or business holding a certificate of competency for the
inspection of such approved sprinkler equipment be made to the Bureau of Fire
Prevention and Superintendent of Buildings, such report to be filed no later
than January 10 of each year.
The maintenance and inspection report shall contain all such pertinent
information concerning the condition of the water supply, control valves,
wet and dry pipe systems and special equipment, sprinkler equipment alarms,
maintenance, fires, impairments and obstructions, or such other information
as from time to time may be set forth in regulations of the Bureau of Fire
Prevention or the Superintendent of Buildings.
In the event of the shutdown of a sprinkler system for any reason whatever,
the Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Superintendent of Buildings shall be
notified as to the duration of the shutdown; and the owner or occupant shall
take such steps as may be required by the Bureau of Fire Prevention or Superintendent
of Buildings in protecting the property during the period of such shutdown.
Any alterations to the approved sprinkler system must be reported to
the Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Superintendent of Buildings, and plans
must be submitted prior to the installation of a new, improved sprinkler system
or prior to the modification of any existing sprinkler system.
The provisions of this article shall apply equally to new and existing
automatic sprinkler systems and equipment.
