There shall be appointed employees to be known
as "school crossing guards" for the protection of schoolchildren crossing
highways to and from school. These guards, in such number as the Council
shall direct, shall be appointed as temporary employees by the Manager
for such period of time as he shall determine. Guards shall be under
the jurisdiction and control of the Chief of Police and shall perform
such duties with respect to the safety of schoolchildren at crossings
as outlined by the Chief of Police. Each guard shall have the powers
of a police officer in the direction and control of traffic at the
crossing or crossings to which such guard is assigned. The Chief of
Police shall make rules for the conduct and duty hours of such guards,
subject to the approval of the Director of Safety.

Nonresident persons or entities having good cause to operate motorized vehicles on the roads referred to in §
157-2 may apply for a special permit from the Town Manager.
