Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of Chapter 176, Parades, and Chapter 237, Vehicles and Traffic, of this Code shall be punished in accordance with the penalties prescribed in the Vehicle and Traffic Law of this state, if applicable; or, in lieu thereof, every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this Code for which another punishment is not provided in this Code shall be punished as follows: by a fine not less than $100 nor more than $1,000 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed 15 days, or both, for conviction of a first offense; by a fine not less than $1,000 nor more than $2,500 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed 15 days, or both, for a conviction of a second offense, both of which offenses were committed within a period of five years; and by a fine not less than $2,500 nor more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed 15 days, or both, upon conviction for a third or subsequent offense, all of which offenses were committed within a period of five years. Such fines shall be collected as like penalties are now by law collected.
