The provisions of this article shall apply except
when it is necessary to stop, stand or park a vehicle to avoid conflict
with other vehicles or pedestrians or in compliance with the directions
of a police officer, school crossing guard or official traffic control
device.
Except when necessary to avoid conflict with
other vehicles or pedestrians or when in compliance with law or the
directions of a police officer, school crossing guard or official
traffic control device, no person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle:
A. On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped, standing
or parked at the edge or curb of a street.
C. Except when permitted by official signs or parking
meters within an intersection on the side of a highway opposite another
street or highway which intersects and does not cross such highway.
E. Between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within
30 feet of points on the curb immediately opposite the ends of a safety
zone, unless a different distance is indicated by officials signs,
markings or parking meters.
F. Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction
when stopping, standing or parking would obstruct traffic.
G. Upon any bridge or other elevated structure upon a
highway or within a highway tunnel, unless otherwise indicated by
official signs, markings or parking meters.
I. In the area between roadways of a divided highway,
including crossovers, except in an emergency.
J. On a state expressway, highway or state interstate
route highway, including the entrances thereto and exits therefrom
which are a part thereof, except in an emergency.
K. Engaged in the retail sale of frozen desserts, as
that term is defined in Subdivision 37 of § 375 of the Vehicle
and Traffic Law, directly to pedestrians on any highway having a speed
limit in excess of 35 miles per hour. Nothing herein shall be construed
to prohibit the operator of such vehicle from stopping such vehicle
off such highway, in a safe manner, for the sole purpose of delivering
such retail product directly to the residence of a consumer or to
the business address of a customer of such retailer.
It shall be unlawful to stand or park a vehicle,
whether occupied or not, except for the time necessary to pick up
or discharge a passenger or passengers:
A. In front of a public or private driveway.
B. Within 20 feet of any officially designated and marked
crosswalk and of any intersection without a crosswalk, unless a different
distance is indicated by official signs, markings or parking meters.

C. Within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal,
stop or yield sign or traffic control signal located at the side of
the roadway, unless a different distance is indicated by official
signs, markings or parking meters.
D. Within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire
station and, when on the side of the street opposite to the entrance
of any fire station, within 75 feet of said entrance, when properly
sign posted, unless a different distance is indicated by official
signs, markings or parking meters.
E. Alongside or obstructing a curb area which has been
cut down, lowered or constructed so as to provide accessibility to
the sidewalk.
F. No person, company, association or business entity
shall park any vehicle or a trailer-type chassis capable of being
transported as a unit over public roads and streets, with a sign mounted
upon or affixed to it, on any street, public highway or municipal
parking lot of the Incorporated Village of Westbury except for vehicles
which have been issued taxi license plates.

No person shall park a vehicle, whether occupied
or not, except temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged
in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers within 50 feet of
the nearest rail of a railroad crossing, unless a different distance
is indicated by official signs, markings or parking meters.
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle
within 15 feet of a fire hydrant except when such vehicle is attended
by a licensed operator or chauffeur who is seated in the front seat
and who can immediately move such vehicle in case of emergency, unless
a different distance is indicated by official signs, markings or parking
meters.
No person shall move a vehicle not lawfully
under his control into any prohibited area or away from a curb such
distance as is unlawful.
No person shall park a vehicle at any time upon any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XII (§
237-77), attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall stop a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in Schedule XII (§
237-77), attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall stand a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in Schedule XII (§
237-77), attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall park a vehicle between the hours specified in Schedule XV (§
237-80) of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said schedule, attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall stop a vehicle during the times specified in Schedule XVII (§
237-82) of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said schedule, attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall stand a vehicle during the times specified in Schedule XVIII (§
237-83) of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said schedule, attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall park a vehicle for longer than the time limit shown in Schedule XIX (§
237-84) at any time between the hours listed in said schedule of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said schedule, attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall park a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XX (§
237-85), attached to and made a part of this chapter, except at the angle designated and only within the painted stall lines. On all streets or portions thereof where angle parking is now or shall hereafter be authorized, all vehicles parked thereon shall be parked with the front thereof nearest the curb.
The locations described in Schedule XXI (§
237-86), attached to and made a part of this chapter, are hereby designated as loading zones. In such zones, the parking of all vehicles, except trucks engaged in unloading merchandise for less than 10 minutes, is prohibited.
The locations described in Schedule XXII (§
237-87), attached to and made a part of this chapter, are hereby designated as taxi stands.
The locations described in Schedule XXIII (§
237-88), attached to and made a part of this chapter, are hereby designated as bus stops.
