[HISTORY: Adopted by the Common Council of the City of Ithaca 10-7-1998 by Ord. No. 98-25. (This ordinance also repealed former Ch. 7, Appointments, Mayoral, adopted 4-6-1988, as amended.) Amendments noted where applicable.]
Appointments by Mayor — See §§ C-26 and C-27.
The procedure for making appointments to any office, board, commission or committee for which the approval of the Common Council is required or sought shall be as follows, except as provided in charter § C-26:
The Mayor shall give written notice of the proposed appointment to the members of the Common Council at least seven days in advance of the Council meeting at which Council action is requested.
The written notice shall include reasonably sufficient information about the nominee to justify the proposed appointment.
If the procedures in Subsections A and B above are not followed, the objection of any one Council member, who shall not be required to offer any reason or explanation for the objection, shall cause the proposed appointment to be tabled until the next meeting of the Common Council.
Upon the unanimous consent of the entire Common Council, the procedure specified in Subsections A, B and C above may be waived in any particular instance.
