A Town Deputy Supervisor shall be appointed by the Supervisor. The Supervisor
shall make such appointment in writing, a copy of which is to be filed with
the Town Clerk.
The Deputy Supervisor shall serve at the pleasure of the Supervisor.
The powers and duties of the Deputy Supervisor shall be as provided in §
42 of the Town Law.

A. During any period of time in excess of two consecutive
weeks in which the Deputy Supervisor is actually performing the duties of
such office, the Deputy Supervisor shall receive the same salary as the salary
set for the Supervisor, unless he or she already receives a salary as an employee
or officer of the Town of Southampton in excess of the salary set for the
Supervisor, in which case no additional salary shall be paid for the performance
of such duties.
B. In addition to the provisions set forth in §
16-4A, the Town Board may authorize compensation for the Deputy Supervisor. The funds available for such compensation shall be included in the Supervisor's annual budget and shall be reserved in the contingent account G/L No. 01.1990.420.2 until the Town Board authorizes the amount of compensation, if any, for the Deputy Supervisor.
