[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Meeting of the Town of Old Saybrook 11-24-1980 by Ord. No. 32 of the 1980 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Pursuant to C.G.S. § 10-200 the Town of Old Saybrook hereby enacts an ordinance pertaining to truancy.
No child between the ages of five and 16 years of age, while the Old Saybrook Public School System is in session, shall wander about the streets or public places within the Town of Old Saybrook without the express consent and permission of the Old Saybrook Board of Education, or its duly authorized agents.

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
IN SESSION
A time when attendance at public school is required of children between the ages of five and 16 years.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a child who is enrolled at a private or parochial school.
For each breach of this chapter, the parent or legal guardian of the offending child shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $20.
