As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
FIREARM
Any pistol, revolver, rifle or smooth-bore arm from which a shot, bullet, pellet or other projectile can be discharged by whatever means.
PROPERTY
Any land, building, structure, trailer, mobile home or vehicle, whether owned, leased, rented, hired or donated and any bus or other school transportation vehicle, whether owned, leased, rented, hired or donated.
SCHOOL
Any institution, whether public, private or parochial, established for the purpose of providing education, instruction and/or training at the preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle, secondary, vocational, college or university levels.
A. 
No person, other than a law enforcement officer and regardless of any license obtained by such person under the provisions of MGL Chapter 140, shall enter or remain in, on or upon the property of a school while carrying or in possession of a firearm, as defined in this article; an air, BB or pellet gun or pistol; chemical mace or an oleoresin capsicum product; a bow or crossbow; a billy club, nightstick or police baton; a starter's pistol; a replica firearm, handgun or shotgun, regardless of the actual use or purpose for which it was designed; any knife or cutting instrument, other than a knife or cutting instrument actually being used in the course of food preparation or service, or a knife or cutting instrument used in the normal conduct of a recognized trade by a person employed or being trained in such trade; or any weapon enumerated in paragraph (b) of Section 10 of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 269, without the written authorization of the board, officer or person in charge of such school.
B. 
No person, other than a law enforcement officer in the actual performance of his/her official duties, shall enter or remain in, on or upon the property of a school while carrying or in possession of any instrument, device, tool or other thing, regardless of its designed purpose, if such instrument, device, tool or other thing is being carried or possessed for the purpose of assaulting or causing bodily harm to another person.
C. 
No person, other than a member of a law enforcement, fire service or emergency medical services organization in the actual performance of his/her official duties, shall enter or remain in, on or upon the property of a school contrary to a posted notice regarding the procedure for admittance to such property or the conditions of such admittance.
A. 
Whoever remains in, on or upon the property of a school in willful violation of § 619-4 may be arrested without a warrant by a police officer acting pursuant to the provisions of MGL c. 272, § 59.
B. 
Any person found guilty of a violation of the provisions of § 619-4 shall be fined $300.
