Pursuant to the authority of N.J.S.A. 40A:14-156.1, the Township of Bernards and the Township of Bridgewater agree that the Township of Bridgewater will provide emergency fire and first aid services for the Township of Bernards at annual consideration established by reciprocal resolutions of both municipalities.

The obligation of the Township of Bridgewater under this section shall be limited to the provision of fire and first aid services to geographic areas to be determined by mutual agreement of the respective emergency service squads.

Except by mutual consent of the parties, the mutual aid provided by this section may not be terminated prior to the completion of improvements to Allen Road by Hills Development Co. and the acceptance of same by the Township of Bernards. Thereafter, the mutual aid provided by this section may be terminated by either municipality upon 10 days' written notice to the other municipality.

The Township of Bernards agrees that it will reimburse the Township of Bridgewater for any damage to fire and first aid equipment or other property and for payment to any member of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department or the Martinsville Rescue Squad for injuries sustained while providing the services contemplated herein or to a surviving spouse or other dependent if death results, to the extent that such damage or injuries are not compensable by insurance.

This section shall take effect upon the later of:
a. 
Its final passage and publication according to law; or
b. 
Adoption of a similar reciprocal ordinance by the Township of Bridgewater.
