A Municipal Court for the borough is hereby established, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter
264 of the Laws of 1948, as amended and supplemented.
The name of the Court shall be the "Municipal
Court of the Borough of Palisades Park."
There shall be a Violations Clerk of the Municipal
Court, who shall be appointed by the Municipal Judge and who shall
receive a salary as established in the Annual Salary Ordinance, to be paid in the same manner as the salaries of other
municipal officers and which shall be in lieu of all fees and costs
and any other allowances whatsoever. He shall perform such functions
and duties as shall be prescribed for him by law, by the rules applicable
to Municipal Courts and by the Municipal Judge.
There shall be a Judge of the Municipal Court,
who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of
the Council and who shall serve for a term of three years from the
date of his appointment and until his successor is appointed and qualified.
The Municipal Judge shall receive a salary as
established in the Annual Salary Ordinance, to be paid in the same
manner as the salaries of other municipal officers are paid and which
shall be in lieu of all fees and costs and any other allowances whatsoever.
The Municipal Court and the Judge thereof shall have, possess and exercise all the functions, powers, duties and jurisdiction conferred by the provisions of Chapter
264 of the Laws of 1948, as amended and supplemented, or by any other law.
There shall be a Clerk of the Municipal Court,
who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of
the Council and who shall serve for a term of one year from the date
of his appointment and until his successor is appointed and qualified.
The Clerk of the Municipal Court shall receive a salary as established
in the Annual Salary Ordinance, to be paid in the same manner as the
salaries of other municipal officers are paid and which shall be in
lieu of all fees and costs and any other allowances whatsoever. He
shall perform such functions and duties as shall be prescribed for
him by law, by the rules applicable to Municipal Courts and by the
Municipal Judge.

There shall be a Deputy Clerk of the Municipal
Court, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent
of the Council and who shall serve for a term of one year, from January
1 to December 31. The term of the first person appointed under this
section shall expire on December 31 of the year of appointment. The
Deputy Clerk of the Municipal Court shall receive a salary as established
in the Annual Salary Ordinance, to be paid in the same manner as the
salaries of other municipal officers are paid and which shall be in
lieu of all fees and costs and any other allowances whatsoever. He
shall perform such functions and duties as shall be prescribed for
him by law and the rules of the Court and shall, before entering upon
the duties of his office, take and subscribe an oath in accordance
with law.
The Municipal Court shall be held in the Municipal
Building. The Judge shall sit at such times as the business of the
Court may require, subject to the rules applicable to Municipal Courts.

A. In the event that a person appearing before the Municipal
Court of the Borough of Palisades Park applies for representation
by a Municipal Public Defender, it shall be a requirement for such
appointment that any such person applying for representation by a
Municipal Public Defender shall pay an application fee of $200 to
the Municipal Court of the Borough of Palisades Park. The Municipal
Court may waive any required application fee, in whole or in part,
if the Court determines in its discretion, that the application fee
constitutes an unreasonable burden to the person seeking representation.

B. The Municipal Court shall have the authority to prepare
all application forms and establish all procedures for the processing
of the application called for under this section.
