The provisions of this article shall apply except
when it is necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other
traffic or in compliance with the directions of an authorized officer
or official traffic control device.

A. When official signs have been posted prohibiting,
restricting or limiting the stopping, standing or parking of vehicles,
including the use of parking meters, on any street, highway or municipal
parking facilities, no person shall stop, stand or park any vehicle
in violation of the restriction stated on such sign.
B. No person shall violate the direction set forth on
any traffic control devices or regulatory signs installed, such as,
but not limited to, "one way," "do not enter," "truck route," "stop,"
"yield" or "no exit" or flashing red or yellow lights and all parking
meters.
No person shall park any motor vehicle or other
vehicle as follows:
A. Upon any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XIII (§
245-61), attached to and made a part of this chapter.
B. In any public parking field owned or leased by the
Village of Port Jefferson in any other manner than as designated by
appropriate markings and/or signs.
C. On those portions of any Village, county or state
highways within the incorporated limits of this Village in any other
manner than as in the designated on the surface by appropriate markings
where said markings are evident.
D. No vehicle shall remain parked or stored in any public
parking field or on any public street or in any public place for more
than four consecutive days unless special permission is obtained from
the Village.
No person shall stand a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in Schedule XIV (§
245-62), attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall park a vehicle between the hours specified in Schedule XV (§
245-63) of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said Schedule XV, attached to and made a part of this chapter.
No person shall stand a vehicle during the times specified in Schedule XVI (§
245-64) of any day, unless otherwise indicated, upon any of the streets or parts of streets described in said Schedule XVI, attached to and made a part of this chapter.

A. The Board of Trustees, by resolution at any regular or special meeting,
may establish the location and time limit in which no person shall
park any vehicle for longer than the time limit listed at any time
between the hours listed, and upon any of the streets or parts of
streets as determined by the Board of Trustees.
B. Any parking regulations and parking signs heretofore installed and
presently erected within the Village of Port Jefferson are hereby
ratified, and no further resolutions shall be necessary with respect
thereto.
No person shall park a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XVIII (§
245-66) except at the angle designated and only within the painted stall lines. On all streets or portions thereof where angle parking is now or shall hereafter be authorized, all vehicles parked thereon shall be parked with the front thereof nearest the curb.
No person, being the owner of a motor vehicle, shall permit said motor vehicle to remain on the streets listed in Schedule XX (§
245-68) when affected by an emergency due to snowfall, flood, fire or other extraordinary condition affecting the normal flow of traffic. Parking during such emergency shall be prohibited during the hours announced by the Mayor through the public media in connection with such emergency. The hours during which such parking shall be prohibited may also be posted by the Village Clerk at his office. In the event that no such hours have been posted or announced, said prohibition of parking shall continue for a period of 12 hours from the cessation of the occurrence causing the accumulation of snow and ice. The accumulation of more than two inches of snow or ice as a result of a snowstorm, hail, sleet, flood, etc., shall be deemed notice to all persons that a state of emergency exists. Any vehicle violating this section shall be towed away at or under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Safety or his designee.
The locations described in Schedule XXI (§
245-69), attached to and made a part of this chapter, are hereby designated as loading zones.
The locations described in Schedule XXII (§
245-70), attached to and made a part of this chapter, are hereby designated as bus stops.

No bus, taxicab, livery vehicle, vehicle bearing advertising
indicating the vehicle is used for a purpose other than private use,
commercial vehicle or vehicle bearing commercial registration plates
shall be parked on a village street within the boundaries of the R-A,
R-A1, R-B1, R-B2, R-B3, R-M, R-O, and P-O zoning districts between
the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. For the purposes of this section,
"commercial vehicles" are defined as vehicles used principally for
the transportation of goods, wares, supplies, materials, merchandise
or passengers for the accomplishment of any paid services, regardless
of the state registration classification.
