A private way which has not been approved by the Planning Board, pursuant to the Subdivision Control Law,[1] shall not be accepted as a public way unless it is at least 49 1/2 feet in width and at a grade approved by the Select Board and with sidewalks, streetlights, surface drains, sanitary sewers, water mains and septic tanks as specified by the Planning Board. The same shall be installed in a manner approved by the Select Board and the Water Commissioners of the Dalton Fire District.

Certification and layout by the Select Board shall be a condition precedent to acceptance by the Town of any new street, which certification shall be made after said Select Board has received, in writing, a statement from the Planning Board that its requirements have been complied with.
In the case of any streets accepted which lack any of the facilities as covered under § 284-6 above, for which betterments and/or assessments may under any law or statute be imposed, they shall be subject to and betterments and/or assessments shall be imposed if and when any of the said facilities or improvements are made or installed.
