The purpose of this article is to promote the health and safety of all
persons gathering at shopping centers and places of public assemblage by providing
fire-fighting lanes at the parking areas of such places so as to gain proper
access to the buildings situate thereon.
Pursuant to § 1660-a of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the
State of New York, as amended, and pursuant to the written request of either
the owner or the persons in general charge of the operation and control of
such areas, or the Fire Chief of the Fire Department serving such area, fire
lanes shall be so provided and such fire lanes heretofore so established as
is shown on maps attached hereto[1] shall be deemed effective in each and every respect.

The parking of motor vehicles, trucks, tractor trailers, motorcycles,
or any other type of equipment be and the same hereby is prohibited in and
on such designated fire-fighting lanes; such restrictions shall not apply
to such vehicles making deliveries of merchandise to the stores or places
of public assemblage.

The Town of Southport establishes safety zones and handicap zones and
requires all vehicles to be 15 feet from fire hydrants at all four educational
facilities located at Broadway, Pine City, Notre Dame and Southside High Schools.
