There shall be established a Charter Review Commission to review and recommend amendments and/or modifications to the Charter of the Town of Johnston.
A. 
The Commission members shall be a minimum of 18 years of age and be duly qualified electors of the Town of Johnston.
B. 
The Commission shall consist of 13 members to be chosen as follows:
(1) 
Two members shall be chosen from each voting district in the Town with the exception of the district of the Council President, with each member elected by a majority vote of the Town Council; and
(2) 
One member shall be chosen by the Mayor of the Town of Johnston; and
(3) 
One member shall be chosen by the majority vote of the School Committee; and
(4) 
At least one of the members of the Commission shall be a member at large. Said member shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Council.
A. 
This Commission shall review the Charter, hold meetings and hearings to receive comment from public officials and the general public, and frame for submission to the Council for its consideration and action such draft amendments to the Charter as it may consider appropriate.
B. 
All meetings and hearings shall be held in compliance with the Open Meetings Law, being R.I.G.L. § 42-46-1 et seq.
C. 
This Commission shall have one year from the date of its organization to complete its work and submit its report.
D. 
The members of the Commission shall serve without compensation but may request of the Council such assistance and funding as they may require to carry out their responsibilities.
