In the installation of the house connections to the house sewer
laterals, the following standards are hereby established as to the
pipe to be used.
Connections made to all buildings and dwellings shall use 60
pounds per length (five feet) of extra-heavy-weight cast-iron pipe
of the best quality, no less than four inches in diameter, or Class
3300 asbestos cement pipe.
In the event that the existing house drain to which the house
connection is to be connected is larger than four inches in diameter,
then in such event, the pipe to be used in making such house connection
must be of such larger size for its entire length.
Extra-heavy-weight cast-iron pipe or its equivalent in asbestos
cement pipe shall be used in the installation of any house connection
under driveways, under filled areas, or in any other area as may be
directed by the Plumbing Inspector, whose decision thereon shall be
final.
All pipes used in the installation of house connections shall
be laid on a smooth bottom, with a special groove cut in the bottom
of the trench for each hub (in order to give the pipe a solid bearing
throughout its entire length). The soil shall be well rammed on each
side of the pipe. Such pipe shall be laid with the joints properly
caulked with lead or with rubber rings for asbestos cement pipe. The
spigot end and hub ends shall be concentric.
All pipe used in the installation of house connections shall
be so installed that the legend imprinted thereon indicating the weight
of such pipe may be seen from above and shall be exposed for its entire
length for examination and approval of the Plumbing Inspector.
The slope of the house connection shall be subject to the approval
of the Plumbing Inspector, but in no event shall it be less than 1/4
inch per foot for four-inch pipe and shall not be less than 1/8 inch
per foot for six-inch pipe.
The house connection shall be constructed at uniform grade and
in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall
be made only with properly curved pipe and twenty-two-and-one-half-degree
fittings, and cleanouts shall be constructed as directed by the Plumbing
Inspector at each and every bend.
Existing building sewers and existing laterals may be used with
new house connections only when they are found on examination and
test by the Plumbing Inspector to meet all requirements of this Part
