Pursuant to the provisions of General Municipal Law § 85, whenever a check or other written order is hereafter tendered in payment of any amount owing to the Town of Maine, which shall be returned to the sender for lack of sufficient funds:
A. 
In accordance with the provisions of § 85 of the General Municipal Law and § 5-328 of the General Obligations Law, a service charge of $20 is hereby imposed upon the sender to be remitted to the Town when funds representing the returned check or other written order are returned to the Town.

B. 
If the sender fails to remit said service charge with the funds replacing the returned check, if the payment was for a tax, special ad valorem levy or special assessment, the service charge shall be included on the list of delinquent accounts prepared for enforcement of any lien relating thereto.
