Whereas, the Borough of Fair Lawn has a Volunteer Fire Department and does seek to assure that members of the Department who are not eligible for benefits provided by the New Jersey State Firemen's Association are otherwise afforded coverage.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
With the exception of the seven years of service and entry age limitations set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-55 et seq., any person who would otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for an exempt fireman's certificate.
A. 
In the event of the death of any active or former active member with at least seven years of qualified service who is not entitled to the death benefits of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association, that member or former member shall be entitled to receive from the Borough of Fair Lawn an amount equal to the benefits of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association, but not less than $2,000.
B. 
Benefits set forth shall accrue to those former active members with at least seven years of service, and all active members of the Volunteer Fire Department, and those persons who may become members of the Borough of Fair Lawn Fire Department subsequent to the effective date of this chapter who are not or will not be entitled to the benefits of the New Jersey Firemen's Association.
