As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
WEAPON
Includes any firearm, bow and arrow, crossbow or any device
which could be utilized to shoot, cast or propel any projectile and/or
any device that has been altered to shoot, cast or propel any projectile.
The discharge, firing or use of any firearm
or other type of weapon of any nature whatsoever within the Township
of Hanover is specifically prohibited, except for the specific purpose
of protecting one's person and property and for sport within the area
in the Township wherein hunting is permitted as designated by the
Township Committee of the Township of Hanover and depicted on the
map. The place designated on the map is that in which permits
issued by the Township shall be effective, and no person shall discharge,
fire or use any gun, pistol, firearm or bow and arrow in any other
area or location in the Township. Such area presently designated for
hunting is subject to change and revision from time to time by the
Township Committee as growth and development would cause such area
to be deemed unsafe for the purpose of hunting.
No person shall discharge a firearm or any other
type of weapon even within the area within the Township of Hanover
wherein hunting is permitted by ordinance unless a permit has been
obtained from the Township of Hanover. The issuance of such a permit
shall be in the complete and sole discretion of the Chief of Police
of the Township of Hanover.
Any person having made an application and having been granted a permit may annually thereafter renew said application and permit by a written request to the Detective Bureau, which request for said renewal shall be reviewed and acted upon by the Chief of Police or his designee. Each application for renewal shall be accompanied by a fee as set forth in Chapter
125, Fees, of the Code of the Township of Hanover.
All firearm permits shall be for a period of
one year from April to March 1 in any one year shall expire on March
31 of the following year.
Any person or persons discharging any firearm
or any other type of weapon in the Township of Hanover contrary to
the terms of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be subject to a
fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment not to exceed 90 days,
or both.
