Under the direction of the appropriate department
head, the Principal Clerk Stenographer does stenographic and other
related clerical work, varied in nature and requiring knowledge of
department laws and regulations and the frequent exercise of independent
judgment, and/or supervise the work of a clerical unit or be responsible
for complex clerical work. The Principal Clerk Stenographer shall
also perform other related work as required.
Two years of experience in stenographic and clerical
work or one year of supervisory stenographic and clerical experience.
Successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum
of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial
science from an accredited college or university may be substituted
for one year of the experience indicated above. Course work must include
typing skills, methods and procedures. Other courses may include,
but not be limited to, office procedures, word processing and business
English.
A driver's license valid in New Jersey, only if the
operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary
to perform the essential duties of the position.
