Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135, there is hereby established in and for the Township of Lopatcong the position of Deputy Township Clerk.

The Deputy Township Clerk shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the Township Clerk or from time to time by the Township Council. Said Deputy Township Clerk shall have all the powers and duties of the Township Clerk during such times and for such periods as said Township Clerk shall be absent or in case of vacancy in the office of Township Clerk.

The term of office of the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be for a period of three years, to commence on January 1 of the year in which the appointment is made. Any subsequent term of office shall be subject to appointment by the Township Council. However, any serving Deputy Municipal Clerk who has held that office continually for five years from the date of his original appointment and has received a Registered Municipal Clerk certificate shall acquire tenure as provided by the laws of the State of New Jersey.
The Deputy Township Clerk shall receive such compensation as shall be provided in the Salary Ordinance, as amended.[1]
