A. 
Pursuant to and in accordance with the provisions of P.L. 1981, c. 393,[1] there is hereby created in the Township of Lopatcong the office of Tax Assessor.

B. 
Prior to appointment by the governing body, the Assessor shall be certified as a Municipal Tax Assessor as provided by general law.
C. 
The compensation for this position shall be established in the Annual Salary Ordinance.[2]

A. 
The Tax Assessor shall hold his/her office for a term of four years from the first day of July next following his/her appointment.
B. 
Vacancies other than those due to expiration of a term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term.
The Tax Assessor shall:
A. 
Value all real and personal property in the township for purposes of assessment and taxation in accordance with general law and ordinances.
B. 
Value and assess real and personal property for purposes of ad valorem taxation.
C. 
Prepare the tax list and duplicate list required by law and keep assessment records of each and every parcel of real property assessed or exempted.
D. 
Have custody of and maintain an up-to-date Township Tax Map, recording thereon all changes in ownership or character of property.
E. 
Make appraisals of property for any township purposes upon the direction of the governing body.
F. 
Certify a list, from the current tax duplicates, of the names and addresses of owners of property within 200 feet of property of an applicant for development under the Municipal Land Use Law.[1]

G. 
Have such other powers, functions and duties given to municipal assessors by general law.
