[Adopted 6-26-1986, effective 7-17-1986]
The purpose of this article is to promote public safety and convenience by requiring visible street numbering in order that addresses may be identified from Town highways and other streets and roads to ease and speed essential emergency services such as fire fighting, police, and emergency medical care.
Pursuant to C.G.S. § 7-148, the Town shall assign street numbers to all property and structures fronting on any highway, street or road within the Town and may change numbers if necessary to have a more orderly numbering system. When new streets or roads are laid out, the Town shall promptly assign numbers to each property or structure on said street or road. The Town may assign numbers to property on private streets or roads which have not been accepted by the Town or which pass through private property. Such assignment of numbers shall not be construed as acceptance by the Town of such streets or road or any portion thereof.
Each owner, agent or occupant shall affix the number assigned to said property to a structure on the property or an object appurtenant to the property. All numbers, a minimum of three inches in height, in contrasting color to the background, shall be affixed so as to be visible from a highway, street, or road. Numbers shall be affixed within 60 days of the effective date of this article.
