No person, firm or corporation shall erect or maintain in or
over any public sidewalk, public street, public highway or public
alley in the City of North Tonawanda any sign for displaying the name
or trademark of any person, firm or corporation, or for displaying
any advertisement, or for giving notice of any business or occupation,
without having first obtained a permit therefor from the Common Council
of the City of North Tonawanda. Any person obtaining a permit for
the erection of a sign shall provide proof to the satisfaction of
the Building Inspector that the person, firm or corporation erecting
or maintaining a sign shall have in force a public liability insurance
policy naming the City of North Tonawanda as an additional insured
with limits of no less than $100,000 for property damage and $300,000
for bodily injury, per occurrence.
All the provisions of this ordinance shall apply to all signs
erected before the enactment of this ordinance and for which the owners
thereof have not obtained a permit or filed a surety company bond
as herein required.
A violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance shall
be a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine not to exceed $50.
