Pursuant to § 7-92 of the Connecticut General Statutes,
the Board of Selectmen shall appoint such number of special constables
it deems necessary to preserve the public peace within the municipality.
Special constables shall serve for a term as set by the Board
of Selectmen, which term shall not exceed two years from the date
of appointment. The Board of Selectmen may remove any special constable
at any time for cause.
Pursuant to § 9-185 of the Connecticut General Statutes,
special constables appointed pursuant to this chapter shall replace
all elected constables as of the date of their appointment and assumption
of office, and the elected constables' term of office shall terminate
as of such date and time. No constables shall thereafter be elected.
Special constables shall have all of the duties, responsibilities
and all of the powers consistent with §§ 7-92 and 9-185
of the Connecticut General Statutes.
The Board of Selectmen may prescribe regulations for the administration
and operation of such special constables who shall be under the direction
and control of the First Selectmen or his designee.
