This chapter shall be known as the "Person First Language Act."
All local laws, ordinances, or regulations promulgated by, or publications paid for by, the County of Monroe that refer to persons with disabilities shall use respectful language by referring to persons with disabilities as persons first.
All local laws, ordinances, or regulations promulgated by, or publications paid for by, the County of Monroe, that refer to persons with disabilities, shall seek to avoid language that:
A. 
Implies a person as a whole is disabled;
B. 
Equates a person with his or her condition;
C. 
Has negative overtones; or
D. 
Is derogatory or demeaning.
