This article shall be referred to as the Athens Township Pre-Employment
Background Check and Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
Applicants considered for employment or rehire will be screened
for drugs and alcohol as a routine part of the pre-employment determination
process. Prospective employees shall also be required to undergo a
background check to determine their suitability for employment. Employees
who are being considered for reinstatement or are rehired must also
receive a drug and alcohol test prior to return to work after appeal
or assuming new duties.
Applicants will be requested to sign a consent release form
(attached hereto as Attachment 1), authorizing the designated lab
to perform the drug screening test and submit the results to the Board
of Supervisors.
Applicants who refuse to sign the consent release form or who
show traces of illegal drugs will not be considered for employment.
Applicants shall be given only one valid drug screening review
within a six month period. If the first test shows positive, the applicant
may elect to pay for a confirmation test.
Any employee who has been arrested for a drug or alcohol violation
may be required to submit to a drug and/or alcohol test. Failure of
an employee to report said arrest shall be deemed a violation of this
policy and subject the employee to immediate disciplinary action which
may include termination of employment.
Whenever an employee takes a physical exam in relation to his/her
employment, continued employment, return to work following an absence
for six weeks or longer, he/she shall be tested for drugs and/or alcohol.
