[Adopted 10-14-1974 as Article 131 of the Codified Ordinances of Newtown Township 1973]
Newtown Township shall become a participant in the social security system, and that participation shall commence as of January 1, 1951, and the benefits of old-age and survivors insurance shall be extended to its employees and officers.
The Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Supervisors are hereby authorized to execute and deliver to the Secretary of Labor and Industry of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the state agency charged with the administration of the enabling Act,[1] the plan and agreement required under the provisions of Section 6 of the enabling Act[2] and the Social Security Act to extend coverage to the employees and officers of Newtown Township and to do all other things necessary to that end.

The Secretary and Treasurer of the Township are hereby authorized to make all required payments into the contribution fund established by Section 7 of the enabling Act[1] and to establish such system of payroll deductions from salaries of officers and employees as may be necessary to their coverage under the old-age and survivors insurance system.

The Board of Supervisors hereby appropriates from the general funds of the Township the amounts necessary to pay into the contribution fund as provided in Section 4 of the enabling Act[1] and in accordance with the plan or plans and agreement.

The proper officers of the Township are hereby authorized to do all things in accordance with the provisions contained in the plan and agreement necessary to the continued implementation of the old-age and survivors insurance system.
