A. 
There is hereby created an Office of the Aging of the City of Yonkers for the purpose of serving all citizens of Yonkers in order to improve their social well-being. The head of the Office of the Aging shall be appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and shall serve at his or her pleasure. The head of the Office of the Aging shall be a person with the qualifications and training necessary to perform the functions of the office.

B. 
The Office of the Aging shall be responsible for coordinating activities relating to the senior citizens of the community. These activities shall include but shall not be limited to meaningful programs for health and nutrition as well as a variety of recreational activities. The office of the Aging shall also:
(1) 
coordinate and supplement the activities of public and private agencies in resolving problems relating to senior citizens and in implementing and developing various projects throughout the City relating to senior citizens;
(2) 
undertake and promote activities and establish, maintain and operate projects and programs devoted in whole or in part to senior citizens; and
(3) 
implement through federal and state agencies and commissions the funding of programs servicing senior citizens.
