Purpose. The purpose of this article is to establish policies and
procedures for the collection of fees associated with the performance
of marriage or civil union ceremonies by the Mayor or Deputy Mayor.
Collection of fees. Persons seeking to be married or joined in civil
union by the Mayor or Deputy Mayor of Riverside shall remit a fee
as set forth below, to be paid to the Township of Riverside.
Receipt of fees. The fee shall be paid by cash or money order to
the Township of Riverside. Fees collected shall be deposited into
the Township's current fund. In consideration of the time, preparation,
clothing costs, mileage and related expenses incurred, 1/2 of the
fee shall be payable to the Mayor or Deputy Mayor that performed the
service. To the extent that the Salary Ordinance[1] of the municipality provides a set salary for these positions,
this article amends the Salary Ordinance to include and allow for
the disbursement of these additional fees, as the performance of ceremonies
is discretionary and not a mandated responsibility of the positions.
Disbursement of fees. Fees for service may be disbursed to the Mayor
or Deputy Mayor through the appropriate budget line item and with
appropriate authorization through approval of the bill list by the
Township Committee.
