As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
DANGEROUS WEAPON
Any device from which a shot, missile or projectile is discharged or released at a high velocity. Said term shall include but not be limited to pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, pellet guns, BB guns, slingshots, bows and arrows and crossbows.
PARKS
Shall be defined as in Article II of this chapter, i.e., all those lands designated and set aside by the government of the Town of Lewiston as public common areas to be utilized by Town residents for recreational, athletic and social purposes.
No person shall possess, discharge or use any dangerous weapon in any and all Town of Lewiston parks.
A. 
Nothing herein shall apply to Town of Lewiston police or security personnel who are legally armed while on duty and patrolling Town parks.
B. 
Nothing herein shall apply to persons who are off-duty police personnel and who are required to be in possession of service weapons at all times. However, nothing herein shall permit the use of such service weapons except in emergency situations wherein the police personnel in possession of said service weapons are performing a police or law enforcement function.
C. 
Nothing herein shall apply to the use of bows and arrows in Town of Lewiston approved and supervised archery programs, so long as said use is confined to delineated and clearly marked archery ranges.
A. 
Any violation of this article of this chapter shall be deemed a misdemeanor.
B. 
For every violation of this article of this chapter, the person violating same shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 90 days, or both.
C. 
Nothing herein shall prevent the initiation of any civil action available therefor.
