[HISTORY: Adopted by the Common Council of the City of Fox Lake as §§ 2-1-3 to 2-1-6 of the 1997 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
Annual City election. The annual City election shall be held on the first Tuesday in April, unless otherwise designated by statute.
B. 
Hours.

(1) 
General elections. The polls at general elections in the City shall be opened at 7:00 a.m. and closed at 8:00 p.m.
(2) 
Notice. Notice of all elections, stating the prescribed polling hours, shall be given by publication in the official newspaper before the election, as required by state statutes.
C. 
Polling places. The designated polling place for all wards of the City of Fox Lake shall be at the Fox Lake City Hall, Dodge County, Fox Lake, Wisconsin.
Whenever three or more candidates file nomination papers, candidates for elective City offices may be nominated by a nonpartisan primary conducted pursuant to § 8.05(4), Wis. Stats. Such candidate shall file with his nomination papers a declaration that he will qualify for the office to which he may be elected.

Pursuant to the Wisconsin Statutes, there is hereby established one set of election officials to conduct all elections in the wards of the City which shall consist of seven election inspectors. However, the City Clerk shall have the power to limit the number of election officials. The Clerk shall determine in advance of each election whether the number of election officials for such election should be reduced from the number prescribed by the Wisconsin Statutes, and if such a reduction is so determined, the Clerk shall further redistribute duties among the remaining officials.

At the regular Common Council meeting in December of each odd-numbered year, the Mayor shall nominate persons to serve as election inspectors. The number of election inspectors shall be determined, as necessary by the City Clerk, to adequately staff each election, and to reduce the number of election inspectors to an odd number of not fewer than three, at any given election held within the City of Fox Lake. The Common Council shall immediately approve or disapprove such nominations. If it disapproves any such nominee, the Mayor shall immediately nominate another person. For a vacancy caused by sickness, or any other reason, the City Clerk shall appoint a substitute, which shall be in effect for that day only.
B. 
There may be two shifts for election inspectors on all election days. The first shift shall commence at 6:30 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. The second shift shall commence at 1:30 p.m. and end with the completion of all required election day duties that follow the closure of the polls.
C. 
Section 7.30(1)(b), Wis. Stats., allows each municipality to appoint one additional inspector to serve at each polling place, without regard to party affiliation, who shall serve as a greeter to answer questions and to direct electors to the proper locations for registration and voting, and who shall be available to substitute for other election inspectors who must leave the room during the voting process.

Purpose. This section is intended to establish aldermanic district boundaries in the City of Fox Lake in compliance with §§ 5.15 and 62.08, Wis. Stats.
B. 
Aldermanic district boundaries. The Common Council intends to adjust the aldermanic district boundaries by resolution to maintain a balance of the voting public within each ward following each national census.
