Whenever three or more candidates file nomination papers, candidates
for elective City offices may be nominated by a nonpartisan primary
conducted pursuant to § 8.05(4), Wis. Stats. Such candidate
shall file with his nomination papers a declaration that he will qualify
for the office to which he may be elected.
[Amended 3-2-2016]
Pursuant to the Wisconsin Statutes, there is hereby established
one set of election officials to conduct all elections in the wards
of the City which shall consist of seven election inspectors. However,
the City Clerk shall have the power to limit the number of election
officials. The Clerk shall determine in advance of each election whether
the number of election officials for such election should be reduced
from the number prescribed by the Wisconsin Statutes, and if such
a reduction is so determined, the Clerk shall further redistribute
duties among the remaining officials.
A. At the regular Common Council meeting in December of each odd-numbered
year, the Mayor shall nominate persons to serve as election inspectors.
The number of election inspectors shall be determined, as necessary
by the City Clerk, to adequately staff each election, and to reduce
the number of election inspectors to an odd number of not fewer than
three, at any given election held within the City of Fox Lake. The
Common Council shall immediately approve or disapprove such nominations.
If it disapproves any such nominee, the Mayor shall immediately nominate
another person. For a vacancy caused by sickness, or any other reason,
the City Clerk shall appoint a substitute, which shall be in effect
for that day only.
B. There may be two shifts for election inspectors on all election days.
The first shift shall commence at 6:30 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. The
second shift shall commence at 1:30 p.m. and end with the completion
of all required election day duties that follow the closure of the
polls.
C. Section 7.30(1)(b), Wis. Stats., allows each municipality to appoint
one additional inspector to serve at each polling place, without regard
to party affiliation, who shall serve as a greeter to answer questions
and to direct electors to the proper locations for registration and
voting, and who shall be available to substitute for other election
inspectors who must leave the room during the voting process.
